MATA AND HERRERA TO GET NEW DEALS
Manchester United are set to tie down two of its stars Ander Herrera and Juan Mata, according to reports by ESPN.
Both players have deals that would continue until next year and the club has an automatic one year extension trigger that can help them until 2019.
However, following their impressive performance Man United want to lengthen their deals. The talks for new deals is expected to move smoothly as both players have their spots secured in the team and would want to grow to become top players at Old Trafford.
Herrera joined from Athletic Bilbao for £30 million in 2014. After a slow start, he enjoyed a prominent season last term as he flourished under Jose Mourinho. Following the appointment of his former coach Ernesto Valverde at the Nou Camp and with his impressive displays for the Red Devils, there are rumours that Barcelona might be interested in him.ESPN claims the 27-year old player is settled and wants to build a legacy in England.
Mata on his part moved from Chelsea to United in 2014. Mourinho sanctioned the sale then in his second spell at Stamford Bridge. Mata has steadily built a good profile at the club. The 29-year old featured 42 times last term, scoring ten goals.
Mourinho wants to tie down the players to avoid any future issues as there have been in the league. The Portuguese just added NemanjaMatic from his former club for £40 million amid interest in Ivan Perisic from Inter Milan. Perisic is keen on the deal but the English club would need to meet the terms of the Italian side: £48.5 million for the 28-year old or a reduced fee and Anthony Martial on loan with no option to buy.
