Spanish midfielder Juan Mata won’t be signing for Italian Serie A side Lazio this summer. The 34-year-old playmaker is a free agent after leaving Manchester United. Juan Mata spent over eight years with the Premier League heavyweights before leaving them at the end of his contract this summer.

It was reported that Juan Mata was offered to Lazio manager Maurizio Sarri, but the Italian tactician is not sold on the move. The former Chelsea and Napoli boss was not convinced after the player was offered to him on a free transfer. Italian publication II Mesaaggero confirmed the news concerning Juan Mata and Lazio. His agent proposed him to Sarri, but the Lazio manager was not interested in the experienced player. Sarri turned down the chance to sign Mata on a free transfer as he didn’t think the Spaniard won’t fit in with his team at Italian capital club Lazio.

Juan Mata spent some seasons at Chelsea upon his transfer to the club from Spanish La Liga team Valencia. Manchester United paid around £37m to secure his transfer at the start of 2014.  He could have joined fellow Spanish players such as Luis Alberto, Patric and Pedro Rodriguez if Sarrihad accepted to give him a deal as a free agent.

Mata is no longer in the picture as far as the Spanish national team is concerned. He scored ten goals in 41 games forhis country at the senior national team level.

Juan Mata had not been a regular in the Manchester United starting XI for some seasons before his exit from the club this summer. He played 12 times for the Red Devils in competitive games. The playmaker featured for a total of 409 minutes. He’s one of the experienced players to leave Manchester United this summer. Apart from Mata, Uruguayan striker Edinson Cavani, French midfielder Paul Pogba and Serbian midfielder NemanjaMatic also left Manchester United this summer.
