Juan Mata says Villa’s MLS move could be first of many
With David Villa being unveiled as the first player for the new Major League Soccer franchise, New York City FC, Juan Mata believes his Spanish teammate’s move could be the beginning of a mass movement of players to the American league in the years to come.
Mata talked about Villa’s move after it was confirmed he would be the first marquee signing of theManchesterCityand New York Yankees owned franchise and said that that he was happy for him. He added that this is a great step for his career;New York Cityis a great place to live in and hopefully, he is opening the doors for many players to move to theUnited States.
The Manchester United playmaker believes theUnited Statesis a great place to end a player’s career. Football is a fledgling sport across theAtlantic Oceanand if he turns out to be a success, many players will be tempted with a move to the MLS.
Frank Lampard, another former team mate of Juan Mata atChelsea has also been linked with the newest MLS franchise but nothing has been confirmed yet.
With formerEnglandskipper David Beckham also buying his own team in the MLS, the likes of Xavi have been mentioned as stars for the team but nothing has been confirmed yet.
Juan Mata is also not sure what his future holds at the moment. With Manchester United appointing a new manager in Louis van Gaal, there has been speculation that he could be sold withBarcelona keen on bringing the player back toSpain.
However, conflicting reports suggest that only Wayne Rooney, Robin van Persie, David de Gea and Mata are safe under the new manager with the rest of the team all set to fight out for their futures at the club.
